Prof. (Dr.) Sutapa Dutta is a Professor of English at Gargi College, University of Delhi. She is a Fulbright awardee, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, London, and a former Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla. She is a Visiting Professor at University of Pennsylvania, USA, and Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur.
Her research interests and publications are focused on eighteenth and nineteenth-century writings, and cover gender, education, and identity in colonial India. Some of her works are: British Women Missionaries in Bengal, 1793-1861, Mapping India: Transitions and Transformations, 18th -19th Century, British Women Travellers: Empire and Beyond 1770-1870, Disciplined Subjects: Schooling in Colonial Bengal, and Making the ‘Woman’: Discourses of Gender in 18th-19th Century India.
